Producer Price Index (PPI)

The Producer Price Index measures inflation. The economy almost always has a little inflation, which is a good thing. However, too much inflation is not a good thing.

The PPI measures inflation’s effects on prices charged by domestic manufacturers and service providers.

Producer Price Index — Annualized Month-to-Month Changes

The following graph shows annualized month-over-month changes in the PPI. The data source for this chart shows the aggregate PPI, which is known as All Commodities. Other versions of PPI are available to show, for example, only Finished Goods, or Finished Goods minus Food and Energy products, or just Capital Goods.
